Don’t Use The Car Wash

There is a common belief among many car owners that car washes can scratch their cars. It is true ! Those circular spider web like scratches are more often than not caused by using the community car wash. Some car washes can cause scratches, but not all car washes are created equal. Touchless car washes do not do this but they also do not clean your vehicle as well. There are several factors that determine whether a car wash will scratch your car, including the type of car wash, the equipment used, and the condition of your car's paint.

There are three main types of car washes: automatic , hand wash, and touchless. Automatic car washes use machines to clean the car, while hand washes are done by human operators. Automatic car washes can be further divided into touchless and brush-based systems. Touchless car washes use high-pressure water jets and detergents to clean the car without making physical contact with the surface. This type of car wash is less likely to scratch the car, but may not remove all the dirt and grime. Brush-based car washes use rotating brushes to clean the car. While this type of car wash can be effective in removing dirt and grime, the brushes can also scratch the car if they are not properly maintained or if the car has any protrusions or sharp edges. Hand washes are generally considered to be safer than automatic car washes because the operators can carefully inspect the car's surface and avoid any areas that are prone to scratches.

The equipment used in a car wash also plays a role in whether the car will be scratched. For example, if the brushes or cloths used in an automatic car wash are dirty or worn out, they can cause scratches on the car's surface. If the pressure from the water jets in a touchless car wash is too high, it can damage the paint as well.

The condition of your car's paint can also affect whether it will be scratched in a car wash. If the paint is already damaged or has scratches, it is more susceptible to further damage in a car wash. Similarly, if the car has any protrusions or sharp edges, they can be easily caught by the brushes or other equipment in the car wash.

While it is true that car washes can scratch your car, it is not always the case. By choosing a reputable car wash that uses the right equipment and maintains it regularly plus taking care of your car's paint, you can minimize the risk of scratches. Ultimately, the best way to protect your car's paint is to wash it by hand using the proper techniques and equipment or call your local professional detailer as they will have the right equipment and should known the proper washing techniques.
